Women in Power: Cathy Wilson

Mar 23, 2022

In recognition of International Women’s Day, we are celebrating the women who are integral to our Company’s operations.

Cathy Wilson: Customer Care Representative

Cathy has worked for BELCO for 26 years, having started in the Staff Cafeteria. She soon became Cashier, then Senior Cashier, and says she is now privileged to be in the Customer Care Section.

In addition to her day to day duties, Cathy is very involved in the Events Committee and outside of work she volunteers as a Board Member for the North Village Community Club, and is an active volunteer for PALS and the annual End-to-End charity event.

Cathy feels her greatest asset in her role within the Company is being personable and responsive to customer needs.  She said: “I feel this quality is very important in any business sector as it is vital that internal and external clientele be greeted and handled in a pleasant, professional, and tactful manner.” Cathy’s professionalism was recognised in 2021 as she was awarded Customer Experience Agent of the Year.

“When this news was conveyed to me it came as a total shock but proved my hard work in meeting customer expectations, along with our Company mandate and purpose which is ‘to better the lives of not only our customers but the community as a whole’,” said Cathy.

Cathy says she stands on that principle daily and she strives hard as a single mother to instil those same attributes in her two sons and grandson, all whom she loves dearly.

As far as words of advice to other women looking to get into the industry, Cathy emphasised the real meaning and importance of success. She said: “Success is built on progression, integrity, loyalty and honesty and it is important that these qualities be carried out diligently as they allow the fullest of one’s potential to be achieved, not only personally, but also in their career of choice.”
