Llewellyn Vorley Engineering Scholarship Recipient: Jamin Fubler

The Llewellyn Vorley Scholarship and Educational Award was created in 2000 in honour of Mr. Llewellyn Vorley. Mr. Vorley began his career with BELCO as a Controller and later moved on to become the General Manager and Managing Director.

Mr. Vorley worked at BELCO for 36 years starting in 1946 after graduating from Harvard University with a degree in economics and serving five years in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. During his time at BELCO he took a keen interest in the well-being of Company staff and was highly regarded for his kindness and professionalism.

A keen sailor, Mr. Vorley was a founding member of the Bermuda Yachting Association and served as Commodore of the Bermuda Yacht Club. In 2001, he was honoured for his service to the community in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list, which named him an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

Mr. Vorley greatly contributed to the overall growth and development of the Company and upon his retirement it was decided to commemorate his tenure at the Company with the renaming of the scholarship.

This scholarship is for $25,000 per year for a maximum of four years and recognises the scholar’s desire to further their knowledge in the engineering fields and to provide an opportunity for their insight, knowledge and experience to be shared within the Company.

The 2021 recipient is Jamin Fubler who is studying at Dalhousie University in Canada for a Bachelor of Engineering.
