Safety Moment
With early predictions of an above-average hurricane season for 2022, we must maintain our hurricane readiness to ensure safety and minimise destruction, danger, and loss of power.

The most effective method of protecting your property and your loved ones is to trim your trees back so that they are at least ten feet away from power lines. Fallen tree branches can pull down power lines and even entire utility poles. These downed lines pose a serious electrocution and fire hazard.

Trimming your trees can also reduce the risk of one of the most inconvenient parts of a hurricane: losing your electricity. Most outages in Bermuda are caused by trees falling on power lines.

IMPORTANT
Power lines must be de-energised before trimming trees. Contact BELCO three weeks in advance via email at or via telephone at 299.2800 to schedule a  power shutdown so you can trim safely .

Living Sustainably
Net Zero is the state at which the greenhouse gases added to the Earth’s atmosphere are balanced by the greenhouse gases removed from the Earth’s atmosphere.

It is the point at which global warming ceases to exist and as per global scientific consensus, must be achieved by 2050 in order to prevent irreparable climate damage. As long as global emissions remain above zero, the planet will continue to get hotter.

At BELCO, we have committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050, to learn more, visit: Net Zero 2050 – BELCO
