Safety Moment
Young children are naturally curious and are quick to explore the world, so it’s important to protect them. Some electrical safety tips to help are as follows:

Install safety caps and covers over all outlets.
Installing safety caps and covers on outlets prevents children from inserting objects into the outlet, protecting them from shock.

Prevent accidents by teaching kids to avoid yanking on cords.
Yanking can damage the cord and compromise electrical safety. Show kids how to pull cords out of an outlet by carefully holding the plug, and not pulling on the cord.

Place dangerous appliances out of reach.
Keep dangerous appliances away from children until they’re old enough to operate them properly and understand electrical safety at home by storing these dangerous appliances on high shelves or in locked cupboards—anywhere children cannot access them.

Fuel Adjustment Rate Increase

With the approval of the Regulatory Authority, the Fuel Adjustment Rate (FAR) has increased from the existing rate of 18.90 cents per kilowatt-hour sold for April to June 2022, to 20.12 cents per kilowatt-hour sold for all meter readings taken on or after July 1, 2022, until further notice.

Energy Efficiency Tip
Even after taking proactive measures to be more efficient with your energy usage, you may still be using energy unnecessarily through phantom energy, which could be conserved instead to reduce your monthly bill.

Phantom energy, also known as vampire power, is the power used by electronic devices when they are not in use due to the “off-but-ready” or “standby” power mode of modern electronics, which can add significantly to the total energy use of your household.

BELCO Energy Efficiency Tips will help you save the environment, save energy, and save money!

Living Sustainably
Climate Change refers to the changes in the Earth’s temperature and weather patterns over a long period of time caused by both natural occurrences and human activities with the latter being the primary driver since the 1800s.

As emissions continue to rise, so does the temperature of the Earth with the last decade (2011-2020) being the warmest on record. Scientists agree world-wide that limiting the global temperature increase to no more than 1.5°C will assist us in maintaining a livable climate.
