Our HISTORY

For over 110 years, the Bermuda Electric Light Company (BELCO) has worked continuously to supply a secure, reliable, and sustainable electric power system, laying the foundation for Bermuda’s continual progress. The Apprenticeship Programme is a four-year programme designed to develop a rewarding career for you at BELCO as a certified Mechanical or Electrical tradesperson. Our programme combines on-the-job training with qualified tradespersons, work experience, and overseas technical training.

This annual $25,000 Scholarship will be granted to a qualified Bermudian who is working towards an engineering degree and has completed one year of his/her university education.

Summer Student Programme
BELCO provides College and University students the opportunity to participate in our Summer Student Programme, which was established to provide students with:
- The opportunity to contribute to the organisation's productivity. The exposure to learn new things. A chance to gain valuable experience. An opportunity to position themselves as shining stars for future employment with the company.
- BELCO provides opportunities for students to work in numerous areas throughout the organisation. Each student is placed in a Business Centre that best suits their current field of study.

Making your skills count
BELCO participates in the Ascendant Group's accredited Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS), which supports Engineers-in-Training (EITs) as they work towards their Chartered Engineer Designation (CEng). Ascendant is the only company in Bermuda to have such an accredited programme for graduate engineers, which is essential in ensuring that Bermuda continues to have local engineering expertise to support the island's energy future.
